    Lecture Given to CCIT Teachers by Wang Qingguo

    On June 28th , at our invitation, Academician Wang Qingguo from South African Academy of Sciences delivered a lecture to CCIT teachers,with the topic of“Opportunities and Challenges:Industry 4.0 and Made in China 2025”. Allthe relevant participants listened carefully to the lecture, including allschool leaders, leaders of sections or equivalents, head of subjects, all full-time teachers from the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, part-time researchers from Sino-South Africa Industrial Cooperation and Vocational Education Research Center and the doctors from Changzhou Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology of Chinese academy of sciences. The Vice President Fei Xiaoping presided the lecture.

    Wang Qingguo started his lecture from two questions: Why should we initiate higher vocational education, and how? He briefly stated his understanding about higher vocational education on the background of Industry 4.0 and Made in China 2025 and shared his experience combining with the situation of proceeding projects. Mr.Wang systematically stated the popular application of AI(artificial intelligence). He also analysed the problems AI had brought to our life in an objective way. Besides, he fully demonstrated how the subject technology was used in specific projects. According to him, intelligent life depends on intelligent products manufactured by intelligent production line from intelligent factories; Industry 4.0 is irresistible, its arrival brings challenges and opportunities to humanity and society. The college should introduce relevant major curricula and support their construction, to grasp the opportunities brought by Industry 4.0 and develop more professional personnel needed by the society.

    In the lecture, President & Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of CCIT Zhou Yong awarded Wang Qiongguo with the certificate of“Double Employed Academician” and presented him with our school badge. After Shen Changxiang, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, this is our second flexible employment for academicians. There will be deep and close cooperation between Wang Qingguo and CCIT in the field of Mechanical&Electrical Engineering, South Africa-Bozhon College, and Sino-South Africa Research. Wang Qingguo said, it was his first time employed in higher vocational college. He hopes to make contributions to major construction, team building and Sino-South Africa industrial cooperation and vocational education research for CCIT, and promote our comprehensive strength and enhance our reputation.

    Finally, Wang Qiongguo had a further communication with the participating teachers by answering questions about scientific research, teaching, and students training, ect..

    Wang Qingguo has been committed to the core research of Industry 4.0. He got his doctor’s degree from Zhejiang University in 1987. From 1987 to 1989, he engaged in post-doctor research with Professor Lu Yongxiang in Zhejiang University. In 1990, he was awarded by the State Education Commission with the title of “Doctor's degree holders with outstanding contributions”. From 1990 to 1992, he received the German Humboldt research fellowship for visiting research at the University of Duisburg and the University of Kassel. From 1992 to 2015 he worked in Electrical and Computer Engineering college of National University of Singapore, and got his promotion to full professorship. Now he is a Distinguished Professor in South Africa Johannesburg University, A-Level scientist of South Africa, and Academician of South African Academy of Sciences. Academically, he mainly get involved in the researches of modeling, estimation, prediction, optimization of complicated systems, as well as studies of controlling and automation. In application, his work covers the core of Industry 4.0, involving the lines of industrial and environmental engineering, new energy equipment, national defense system, medical engineering and financial market, ect. He has published more than 300 papers in international magazines; and 7 of his academic monograph have been published by Springer. His books, articles, and papers have been cumulatively cited for nearly 15,000 times; his h-index is up to 65. He used to be the President of IEEE Singapore Control Branch for 4 times, and be the president of Asian Control Conference and many other IEEE international conferences for many times. He was also the editorial board member of “Process Control”, the Journal of the Association of International Automatic Control. Now Mr.Wang Qingguo is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the“Journal of ISA” and editorial board member of many other international journals.
